Dental Crowns in a Single Appointment
At Perfect Smile we can restore your tooth to full function in a single appointment using CEREC technology.
This means you don’t need a temporary crown while you wait for your final crown to be ready.
CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic)
CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) technology has truly revolutionised dentistry. We can now custom-make your dental crown the same day by digitally scanning your teeth and milling a crown right in the practice.
It’s faster and easier than ever before.
If you’ve been avoiding getting your damaged teeth fixed because you just don’t have the time, there’s no need to wait any longer. You could have your brand new crown in a day!
Are Crowns the same as Dental Bridges?
While Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges have many similarities, they are not the same. Crowns are used to entirely cover or ‘cap’ a damaged tooth or teeth. This is often referred to as either a ‘tooth cap’ or ‘dental cap’. In addition to strengthening a tooth, dental crowns may be used to enhance its shape, alignment, or appearance.
In contrast, Dental Bridges are most commonly used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Dental bridges span the space where teeth are missing. They are then cemented to your natural teeth or your dental implants that surround this space.
Are Crowns the same as Implants?
A Dental Implant structure incorporates a crown. This is the reason that many people think of tooth crowns, dental caps, and dental implants as interchangeable. Dental Implants, however, replace your entire tooth or teeth. A titanium post replaces the root and a crown fits on top. A metal knob, known as an abutment, connects the two.
What can you expect on your Dental Crown journey with Perfect Smile?
Depending on your situation, your dentist may recommend either the traditional crown journey (see the step by step below), or a single appointment CEREC crown (which will require a simple tooth scan, milling of the crown and fitting all within a couple of hours).
Your dentist will discuss their recommendation during your initial consultation.
STEP 1
Your First Appointment
At your first appointment, your dentist will assess your suitability for dental crowns. After taking a look at your teeth, we will take some x-rays, scans, and photos of your smile.
We will then talk you through the tooth cap treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.
STEP 2
Your Individualised Treatment Plan
With all of this information, we create a unique treatment plan based on your individual smile and lifestyle.
It may be the case that treatment is needed to address any oral health issues before placing the tooth crowns.
STEP 3
Treatment Procedure
Your dentist will prepare the tooth and then take a scan of the tooth, along with the teeth surrounding it, which will be sent to a dental lab, in order for the permanent crown to be made.
By the end of your first visit, your tooth may have a temporary crown. This protects the tooth until the final crown is ready to be permanently placed.
STEP 4
Your Final Appointment
Once your dental crowns are ready, your dentist will check the fit, cement them and ensure all dental crowns are securely fixed and you have the smile of your dreams!
STEP 5
Aftercare
Just like natural teeth, you should have regular check ups at Perfect Smile to ensure that your dental crowns, as well as your entire oral health, are in the best shape possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dental Crowns can range in price depending on the material used in the crown and the size of the tooth. Dental crowns can be made from porcelain, ceramic, or metal, although porcelain tooth Crowns are the most popular choice. This is because they look more natural, as they can be colour-matched to your existing teeth. To find out more about our pricing, contact us on: (08) 8210 9414 to discuss our payment options.
The lifespan of a dental crown can vary between 5 and 15 years. Some dental crowns are sturdier than others, and may last 25 – 30 years.
Just like natural teeth, you need to maintain your dental crowns properly with regular 6-monthly check-up appointments. You also need to brush and floss your teeth daily.
As with most types of dental work, many patients express concern about possible pain and discomfort involved with the procedure. However, the dental crown process is incredibly common and straightforward. This results in minimal discomfort throughout the entire process.
In some cases, the answer is yes. If you’re insured, there is a good chance your health insurance policy covers your dental crown. Most private health insurance funds cover dental care as part of their Extras, or Ancillary section. If you have any price-related questions, feel free to contact us on: (08) 8210 9414 to discuss our payment options.
